A young woman who calls herself Roxanne has attracted a great deal of publicity recently with lurid stories about her involvement in sex, drugs and crime. Those ingredients are certainly there but, as Jeff McMullen finds, the truth about Roxanne extends far behond the problems of one 'crazy, mixed-up kid'. How many girls and boys are there like Roxanne who might have been saved from the traumas of delinquency and mental illness if we were better able to recognise and cope with the danger signals? As the real story unfolds, it becomes clear there were too many people too ready to exploit Roxanne, and too few willing to offer genuine help.
